Free School Meals

Families who receive certain benefits may be eligible for free school meals. Your child is eligible for free school meals if you are in receipt of one of the following benefits:

  • Universal Credit with an annual net earning income of no more than £7,400
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Job Seekers Allowance
  • Income -related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for the four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)
  • Child Tax Credits (with no Working Tax Credit) with an annual income of no more than £16,190

How to Apply for Free School Meals

If a student is eligible, they receive their Free School Meals top-up on their ID card automatically and will be able to choose a free hot meal at lunch time. We encourage parents to register your child/children even if they do not want to eat school meals, since this could help to provide vital resources for our school.

Signing up for Free School Meals is not just about getting school lunch for no cost. If you sign up for Free School Meals your child will also benefit from the following:

  • Funding for paid trips
  • Uniform/ equipment purchases
  • Priority laptop loans
  • Priority for extra-curricular activities
  • Priority for tutoring/ mentoring
  • Funding for revision resources e.g textbooks, revision guides

Important Upcoming Change

From the start of the 2026/27 academic year (i.e., September 2026) the government has announced that all children in households in receipt of Universal Credit will be eligible for free school meals, removing the £7,400 earnings cap for UC household
