Mental Health & Wellbeing at Rushey Mead Academy

At Rushey Mead Academy, the wellbeing, safety and happiness of our students is at the heart of everything we do. Children and young people today face increasing pressures, and we know that good mental health is essential for them to learn, grow and thrive.

Recent national research shows that around one in five young people experience a probable mental-health condition. At Rushey Mead Academy, we take this responsibility seriously. Our approach to wellbeing is grounded in our values — our Rushey 1-2-3 expectations:

  1. Be Kind

We create a culture where everyone feels safe, valued and respected. We teach empathy, acceptance and kindness, and we encourage students to talk openly about their feelings.

  1. Work Hard

We promote resilience and perseverance — helping students understand that asking for help is a strength. We support them to overcome challenges and develop emotional confidence.

  1. Develop Your Whole Self

We want students to flourish beyond the classroom. Our enrichment programme, leadership opportunities, clubs, arts and sports all give students space to build confidence, express themselves and develop the skills they need for life.

Support for Parents & Carers

If you’re worried about your child, please contact your child’s Tutor, Year Leader or our pastoral team. We can offer support in school and signpost to local or national services specialising in young people’s mental health.

Together, we aim to ensure every student is safe, supported and able to thrive.
